When you sign up for membership on any website, the website owners can "sell" your email address to advertisers. This is how most websites get away with "free membership" or "free registration" because the advertisers will get to you in your email.





HOW TO FIX THIS:





Have more than one email address...





1. Use one email address solely for the purpose of signing up for things online.





2. Use another email address to give to your family and friends.





3. Use a third email for business contacts.





This way, the first email address will all be filled with spam, and out of the way, while your other email addresses will be clean so you can easily see all the email you WANT to receive.
