Email scam, how old is yahoo answers???
Yahoo answers first birthday was about six or eight moths ago.
Reply:I got one too and now I'm not sure what to do!
Reply:dont open that kind of mail... nothing is free
Reply:Just been checking and as Yahoo Answers started in December 2005, I'd say it looks like a scam. Delete it.
Reply:Got one as well today man.

P.s you go first dude.
Reply:It's a good thing you're paranoid, but after having had a look I think it is a safe website. Rather than jumping to conclusions like the answerers sofar, here's my reasoning.

The cheetahmail URL belongs to Experian, who sell all sorts of e-mail marketing tools. The 'surv' bit at the beginning signifies this is one of their surveys. The e-mail originates from an @yahoo-email.com address. This is not a spoofed address. I did a 'whois' on the yahoo-email.com domain, and the details of the owner match that of Yahoo. With a whois, you can check ownership of any domain in the world, to see who registered it. See here:

http://www.whois.net/whois_new.cgi?d=yah...

You're asked to leave address details, name and Yahoo ID only - it would be more worrying if you were asked to confirm your Yahoo password, Paypal or bank details, etc. To be honest, the details you leave behind will probably be used by Yahoo, Experian and possibly third parties for marketing purposes. It is however not a scam. Don't take my word for it though - try McAfee SiteAdvisor, google the URL's, the companies, and demand that Yahoo explain their action on the Answers website.
Reply:This is a site scan report

It says spam emails (7.2 on average per week)
Reply:I sent it off! Thanks to AllPyxie and BrilliantPomegranite I don't feel so bad about it now having looked up their suggested websites.
Reply:Yahoo Answers was started in 2005. I never saw an e-mail like that.
Reply:I don't think you're being too paranoid. I never saw an email regarding their 1st birthday. I think the cheetahmail.com does give it away.
Reply:Send it here and ask

Reply:Nonononono!

Don't claim the prize!

You've pointed out exactly what's wrong!

It's the URL address.

See how the web page looks authentic and it has the Yahoo logo and design etc? Well that's just a scam. The URL proves it is.

For example. On myspace, say if someone comments you, and sends you a link. And you click on it, and it says

'You must be logged in to do that!' And it has the myspace log in and password page and it all looks good etc. Well if you look at the url, if it is www.myspace.com/login

then it is authentic. if the url is like happylion.com, then that website would be able to take your email and password info, and hack into your account!

The same with here on yahoo. The founders of that page are trying to retrieve your personal details!
Reply:Sounds like a scam..i didnt get anything from yahoo bout that.
Reply:Well, if this is true, then that means Y/A will be sending out T-shirts (free) to 4.5 million people.

Can't see that being cost effective somehow, can you?

I also received one of these emails.

It has to be a scam.....it calls Y/A "A vibrant community where over 4.5 million people help each other out"

I won't be parting with my details.......
Reply:Open it and it'll be like opening pandora's box.
Reply:It's a SCAM to get your information. Yahoo Answers is over 2 years old.

Forward the email to: mail-spoof@cc.yahoo-inc.com
Reply:I think everyone level 5 and above got it. They haven't asked for any really sensitive information and they were asking what members would like to receive as a gift a few months ago so I'm not too worried.

I've only been a member for six months so I'm not sure how old they are but some are saying that they're way over a year old. It might be the UK and Ireland board that's a year old. Answers as an American thing might have been going for longer.
Reply:just ignore it probably an ad or suhin
Reply:sounds like a scam to me...i'll click on the link to check....
