Hi there,

This is a scam. I'll post a link regarding it below. Yahoo does not have a lottery - while it does have a page called "Yahoo! Lottery Results", that's to give the results of real lotteries, it does not run its own.

In the meanwhile, it's very important that you do not send this person any personal or banking information. This scam technique is similar to "phishing", in which a scammer pretends to be from a certain site (such as eBay, for example) and says you must input your username and password or else your account will be deleted within days. You will then be sent to a fake site, and the scammer will collect all the private information of innocent eBay users.

In this case, in order to 'win', you will have to provide personal and banking information - or Paypal information - that no normal lottery would request.

If you like, send an email back requesting that Yahoo.com put a note concerning the lottery on its front page, so that you can be assured that it isn't a scam. Or simply ask for that person's offline contact information - address and phone - so that you can contact them. That isn't too much to ask from someone claiming to represent an organization!

Be careful, best of luck, and happy browsing!
